Entrepreneurs AND Business Owners
When cash flow dips, mood follows.
Counselling for entrepreneurs and professionals dealing with stress, uncertainty, self-doubt, and the toll it takes at home.
Separate your worth from your revenue and challenge the thoughts that say otherwise.
Running a business or carrying a demanding career can bring out the best in you. It can also wear you down. When revenue is strong, you feel unstoppable. When it slows, the stress, uncertainty, and self-doubt creep in, and suddenly your mood is tracking your bank balance.
Most people wait for the numbers to recover before they feel better. That waiting game has a cost.
Does this sound familiar?

✽
Sleep, exercise, and time for myself were the first things to go.
-
✽
One slow month and I start wondering if I’m cut out for this.
-
✽
I carry the weight of the business, and there’s nobody to hand it off to.
-
✽
The uncertainty keeps me up at night.
-
✽
I’m putting off the calls, emails, and decisions I know matter most.
-
✽
The business is growing, but I feel like I’m barely keeping up.
-
✽
I bring the stress home, and the people I love are feeling it.

To switch off, I’m leaning on a drink or something else more than I’d like to.
THE DOWNWARD CYCLE
Mood and cash flow feed each other. It’s not a chicken-and-egg problem. It’s a loop:
Cash flow dips. The pressure builds.
Mood drops. Stress, worry, and self-doubt take over.
Thinking narrows. Under financial pressure, it gets harder to see options clearly.
Decisions shift. You avoid the hard conversations, discount to close, react instead of plan, and pull away from people.
Cash flow takes another hit. And the loop tightens.
You can’t make the money come back this week.
You can change how you respond to it today. That’s where we start.
THE UPWARD CYCLE
The same loop that pulls you down can lift you up. Step in early and it starts working in your favour:
Stress gets managed. You catch it before it takes over.
Mood steadies. You have more energy, more patience, and more confidence to work with.
Thinking opens up. You see your options again, and you plan instead of react.
Behaviours follow. You make the call, send the invoice, hold your price, and stay connected to your team and the people at home.
Your business gets a better shot. Steady, consistent action is what moves the numbers over time.
Each step makes the next one easier, and the loop turns upward. Some problems need a cash flow plan, an accountant, or a hard decision.
While counselling can’t promise revenue, it can put you in the best shape to drive it.
IT DOESN’T STAY AT WORK. The business follows you home.
The pressure of running a business rarely stays at the office. Over time, it shows up everywhere else:
Your relationships
You’re physically home but mentally still at work. You’re shorter with your partner and kids, and the people closest to you end up carrying the stress with you.
How You Cope
When there’s no off switch, it’s natural to look for one. For some, that becomes an extra drink, a little more cannabis, or another way to escape. It often starts as relief and slowly becomes part of the problem.
Your Well-BEING
When time is short, self-care is often sacrificed. Sleep, exercise, eating well, and time with friends all get pushed to “when things settle down.” But those are the very things that keep you steady enough to lead.
None of this means you’re failing. It means you’re carrying a lot, and you deserve support with IT

How can Mike help?
Counselling gives you a confidential place to step out of the business and work on the person running it. Together, we’ll:
Manage stress. Pressure comes with the territory. We’ll work on stress that sharpens you instead of shrinking you.
Get comfortable with uncertainty. You can’t eliminate uncertainty in business. You can build your tolerance for it, so it stops driving your worry and your decisions.
Quiet self-doubt. A slow month is not a verdict on who you are. We’ll separate your worth from your revenue and challenge the thoughts that say otherwise.
Lift a low mood. Proven CBT strategies to break the cycle, starting with action. You don’t have to wait to feel better to take the next step.
Build resilience. Not just bouncing back after the dip, but staying steady and making good decisions while you’re in it.
Keep up with growth. Boundaries, pace, and priorities that let the business grow without costing you your health or your relationships.
Protect your relationships. Find ways to leave work at work, communicate under pressure, and be present with the people who matter most.
Find healthier ways to switch off. Explore what you’re escaping from, without judgment, and build ways to decompress that don’t cost you later.
Make self-care non-negotiable. Sleep, movement, and recovery aren't rewards for when the business is doing well. They’re part of how you run it well.
Use gratitude as a tool. Train your attention toward what’s working, especially when the numbers say otherwise
WHY This Matters to Me
After my spinal cord injury, I learned that I couldn’t wait for my body to come back before I worked on my mind.
Working on my mind was part of how my body came back.
Business works the same way, and I’ve lived that side too. I’ve founded two companies and worked internationally as a consultant to Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies. I know the swings: the strong months, the slow ones, the pressure of carrying a team or a client’s expectations, and the voice that gets louder when things are tight.
Today I bring that experience together with my clinical training as a Registered Clinical Counsellor to help you lead from a steadier place.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
This is counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. The focus is your mental and emotional health: stress, mood, anxiety, and self-doubt. My business background means I understand the pressures you’re under, but our sessions aren’t business strategy. If you need that, a business coach or advisor is the better fit, and the two can work well together.
-
No. In our sessions, I’m your counsellor, not your business consultant. What counselling can do is help you think more clearly and respond more steadily under pressure, which makes it easier to make good decisions and follow through on them.
-
No. In fact, earlier is better. Many people come in when things are hard but manageable, because they want to get ahead of it before it gets worse.
-
If you’re comfortable, let’s talk about it. We’ll look at what’s driving these habits and what would actually help, without judgment. If more specialized support would serve you better, I’ll help you find it.
-
Yes. What you share stays between us, within the standard limits of confidentiality, which I’ll explain in our first session.
